What You Will See

Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and Ba Dinh Square

The day starts where modern Vietnam did: Ba Dinh Square, where independence was declared in 1945. You visit the Mausoleum, walk the gardens of the Presidential Palace and see the simple stilt house where Ho Chi Minh actually lived. Note the Mausoleum opens mornings only and closes on Mondays and Fridays, and for annual maintenance from 4 September to 2 November 2026 – on closed days you still visit the square and the complex grounds.

One Pillar Pagoda

A short walk inside the same complex, this small wooden pagoda has stood on a single stone pillar since 1049 and is one of Hanoi’s oldest symbols.

Temple of Literature

Vietnam’s first university, founded in 1070, with five quiet courtyards and the stone doctor steles. It is the picture of classical Hanoi and sits minutes from good halal lunch options.

Al-Noor Mosque in the Old Quarter

At 12 Hang Luoc Street stands Al-Noor Mosque, built in the 1880s and the only mosque in all of northern Vietnam. The tour stops here in the afternoon.

Dong Xuan Market and Hoan Kiem Lake

The day winds down through Hanoi’s biggest covered market and ends with a walk around Hoan Kiem Lake, past Turtle Tower and the red The Huc Bridge, before your driver takes you back to the hotel.

Go to the Mausoleum first thing – by 09:30 the queue doubles. Dress modestly: covered shoulders and knees (this suits most Muslim travellers already).
Of the three museums, families usually enjoy Ethnology most; history-minded guests pick Hoa Lo Prison.
Crossing Hanoi streets: walk steadily, no sudden stops – the motorbikes flow around you. Your guide will show you the first time.
Bring small cash for Dong Xuan Market; cards are rare inside and bargaining is expected.

At 08:00 your guide and driver meet you in your hotel lobby in central Hanoi. The morning covers the Ho Chi Minh complex on Ba Dinh Square – the Mausoleum (open mornings except Mondays and Fridays; closed 4 September to 2 November 2026 for maintenance, when we visit the square and grounds instead), the Presidential Palace gardens, Ho Chi Minh’s stilt house and the One Pillar Pagoda – followed by the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first university. Lunch is halal, reserved in advance at a local halal restaurant. In the afternoon you choose one museum – the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, Hoa Lo Prison or the Military History Museum (most museums close on Mondays) – then visit Al-Noor Mosque at 12 Hang Luoc Street, the only mosque in northern Vietnam. 1. Does the tour visit the Al-Noor Mosque?

Yes. The Hanoi City Muslim Tour includes a visit to the Al-Noor Mosque at 12 Hang Luoc Street, built between 1885 and 1890. It is the only mosque in Hanoi and northern Vietnam, and you can pray there during the tour.

2. What time does the tour start and finish?

Your guide and driver pick you up at your hotel in central Hanoi at 08:00, and the tour ends back at your hotel at around 18:00. If you prefer a different start time, just let us know.

3. Is lunch on the Hanoi city tour halal?

8. Is the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum open every day?

No. The Mausoleum is open only in the morning and is closed on Mondays and Fridays. It also closes for about two months each year for maintenance (in 2026, from 4 September to 2 November). When it is closed, you can still visit the Presidential Palace area, Uncle Ho’s stilt house and the One Pillar Pagoda nearby. Please wear clothes that cover your shoulders and knees.

9. When is the best time to visit Hanoi and northern Vietnam?

13. Should I tip the guide and driver?

Tips are not included and are optional, but they are appreciated in Vietnam. As a rough guide, many travellers give a private guide about 200,000–400,000 VND (8–16 USD) and a driver about 100,000–200,000 VND (4–8 USD) per day, usually in an envelope at the end of the tour.
