Why Visit Halong Bay as a Muslim Traveler?
Halong Bay, in Quang Ninh province in north-east Vietnam, has 1,969 limestone islands and islets rising from the Gulf of Tonkin over about 1,553 km². UNESCO inscribed the bay as a World Heritage Site in 1994 and 2000, and in 2023 extended it to include the Cat Ba archipelago in Hai Phong under the new name “Ha Long Bay – Cat Ba Archipelago”. The listed area protects 1,133 islands: 775 in Halong Bay and 358 around Cat Ba, including quieter Lan Ha Bay.

| Best time | March–May and late September–November |
Day Cruise or Overnight Cruise?
A day cruise (about 4 hours on the water) is the quickest way to see the bay from Hanoi. Halal food is not available on board the day boats, so lunch is seafood with no meat and no alcohol – or we can arrange a halal lunch on shore. See our Hanoi – Halong Bay Muslim Tour 1 Day.
An overnight cruise lets you see the bay at sunset and sunrise, kayak among the islands and visit caves in the quiet morning hours. For fully halal meals on board, we use Mon Chéri Cruises, which states that it operates a separate halal kitchen with a halal certificate from Halal Vietnam. Choose the Halong Bay Muslim Cruise 2 Days 1 Night or the Halong Bay Muslim Cruise 3 Days 2 Nights.

Prayer in Halong Bay
There is no mosque in Quang Ninh province; the nearest is Al-Noor Mosque in Hanoi. On a cruise you can pray in your cabin or ask the crew for a quiet space on deck; bring a prayer mat and a qibla app.

The tropical storm season runs from about June to October, with the highest risk from July to September. When a storm is forecast, the Quang Ninh authorities stop boats from leaving port; if your cruise is affected, we will offer another date or an alternative program.
