Meals are certified halal wherever a halal restaurant is available; where there is none, we agree alternatives with you in advance, such as vegetarian dishes, seafood without meat or halal-friendly food.

Ho Chi Minh City is the easiest place in Vietnam to eat halal: around the Saigon Central Mosque on Dong Du Street and in the Cham quarter there are many halal restaurants, and we reserve the ones we trust for your lunches. In Hanoi the Al-Noor Mosque at 12 Hang Luoc Street in the Old Quarter is the only mosque in northern Vietnam, and halal restaurants are clustered nearby – see our halal restaurants in Hanoi guide. The overnight Halong Bay cruise in this package does not have a halal kitchen: meals on board are seafood and vegetables cooked without pork, lard or alcohol, and the crew is told in advance that you are Muslim. Tips from Jimmy Nguyen, our founder, who has guided travellers around Vietnam since 2006:

Bring a light jacket for the cruise: evenings on deck can be cool and windy from November to March.
Pack light for the cruise: leave your large bags at the Hanoi hotel and take an overnight bag.
If you start on a Monday, the Hanoi day is reordered because the Mausoleum is closed on Mondays and Fridays.
Saigon is hot all year, Hanoi is cool from December to February – pack for both.
Halong cruises can be cancelled by the harbour authority in storms; we will rearrange the day if that happens.

DAY 1: SAIGON ARRIVAL – CITY TOUR (/Halal Lunch included/)

Upon arrival at Tan Son Nhat airport, our tour guide and driver will welcome and transfer you to the center of city for city tour. We will visit China Town, Reunification Palace, Lam Son Mosque, The Hundred Years Red Cathedral (Notre Dame Cathedral), The Old Post Office. Overnight in Ho Chi Minh City.

DAY 2: SAIGON – MEKONG DELTA – MY THO – BEN TRE – SAIGON (Breakfast at hotel/Halal Lunch included/)

08:00AM: After breakfast, our tour guide and driver will pick you up at the hotel and depart for My Tho, a two-hour drive to My Tho will expose the colorful outskirt life as well as picturesque rice fields along the journey. Upon arrival, get on a boat trip up Mekong River stop at Thoi Son island to visit honey bee-farm, coconut candy workshop. Then taste seasonal fruits, enjoy traditional folk songs at local people house. Walk along the village to see the authentic life of the local and challenge your bargaining power at cottage handicraft shops. Have Halal lunch at Mekong Halal restaurant.

After lunch, we have an adventurous sampan ride in palm shading creeks will be the next experience of the riverside region. After that going back Ho Chi Minh City. Overnight in Ho Chi Minh City.

DAY 3: SAIGON – CU CHI TUNNELS – SHOPPING TOUR (Breakfast at hotel/ Halal Lunch included/)

08:00AM: Our tour guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel in Ho Chi Minh City then drive to the Cu Chi Tunnels. Leaving the bustling city behind the scenery begins to change; first to lush rice paddies, then to rubber plantations, and finally to villagers drying noodles by the side of the road and going about their daily chores. On arrival start the visit with the Ben Dinh or Ben Duoc sections of the tunnel. Here you can imagine what it was like to be a guerrilla complete with Russian Carbine rifles and AK 47’s. On display in the visitor’s section you can see a map of the tunnel system; this really helps you comprehend the complexity and the ingenious design of the tunnels. Have lunch at a local Halal restaurant. Drive back to Ho Chi Minh City.

We will go shopping places such as and Ben Thanh market, Vi Anh/ Huong Ann/ Saigon Square or other shopping complex of your interests…. for shopping until late afternoon. Overnight in Ho Chi Minh City.

DAY 4: SAIGON FLY TO HANOI – CITY TOUR (Breakfast at hotel/Halal Lunch included/)

Transfer you to the airport for the morning flight to Hanoi.

Our tour guide & driver will pick you up at the airport then transfer you to the city center for city tour.

We will visit the Temple of Literature. The site of Vietnam´s first University, built in twelfth century, to teach the royals the Confucius theory. Have lunch at Halal Restaurant.

In the afternoon, we might visit Al – Noor Masjid Mosque at 12 Hang Luoc Street in Hanoi Old Quarter. We choose one from the numerous museums or temples around Hanoi (Museum of Ethnology, Women´s Museum, History Museum or Quan Thanh Temple). A late afternoon walk around Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi´s fascinating Old Quarter for some great fun, shopping, and visiting Dong Xuan market. This is your chance to be part of typical Hanoian style and its traditional Vietnamese culture. Overnight in Hanoi.

DAY 5: HANOI – HOA LU – TAM COC – HANOI (Breakfast at hotel/Halal Lunch included)

Our tour guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel in Hanoi at 08:00AM and depart for the excursion, after 2 hours driving, we arrive Ninh Binh Province. Our first visit is the former capital of Vietnam – Hoa Lu, visit two temples dedicated to King Dinh and King Le, the two heroes who lived in 10th century and chose Hoa Lu to build the citadel of the capital city of Dai Viet. Proceed to Tam Coc for lunch. Tam Coc known as “Halong Bay on land” boasting breathtaking scenery, “Tam Coc” means three caves. After lunch we get on small rowing boats, the boat trip to all three caves takes about two hours. Drive back to Hanoi. Overnight in Hanoi.

DAY 6: HANOI – HALONG BAY OVERNIGHT ON CRUISE (Breakfast at hotel/Seafood Lunch & Seafood Dinner included – No meat)

07h30 – 08h30 Pick-up at hotel and start the scenic, 3 and ½ hour drive to Halong Bay.

12.00 – 12.30: At Tuan Chau International Marina, a tender boat will take you to our Halong Phoenix Cruiser. A refreshing welcome drink is served and you can check into your cabin.

13.00: A delicious set menu lunch is served in the restaurant while you can enjoy the amazing scenery. Cruise amongst the hundreds of islands. You will pass by Duck and Thumb islets to go to Bright cave area – (the border between Halong Bay and Lan Ha Bay)

15.30: After 2.5 hours cruising, our boat will stop in Bright’s cave area for kayaking (A bamboo boat will be arranged for the elderly or people who cannot kayak) to visit the small cave and beautiful lagoons. Kayaking provides the opportunity to explore the beautiful lagoons and get closer to the island.

17.00: As the sun sets over the bay, we head back to our cruise and relax. Coffee, tea and fruits will be available on the sundeck or you can order your favorite drink while our boat cruises to the night’s anchorage area.

19.00: Dinner will be served with local seafood. After dinner you may choose to enjoy drinks from the bar or top deck or experience squid fishing before retiring.

7.00 – 7.45: Enjoy the morning view of the beautiful landscape with a cup of coffee or tea. Have breakfast in the fresh air.

8.00 – 9.00: You will visit the impressive Cave of Halong Bay – Surprising Cave (Sửng Sốt) with your tour guide, a truly awesome and amazing cave to experience.

10.00: Check out of your cabin and settle your bill as our boat begins cruising back to the harbor. Experience more views of Halong Bay such as Fighting Cocks Island (Symbol of Halong Bay), Incense Burner and Stone Dogs Islands.

10.30: A cooking demonstration onboard shows you how to make authentic Vietnamese Spring rolls. You will learn about the recipes and techniques that create this popular dish of Vietnamese people.

11.00: Lunch is served on board during cruising towards the harbor.

11.45: Depart the Halong Phoenix Cruiser and travel by tender boat back to Tuan Chau International Marina where you then board the bus for your return journey to Hanoi. Arrive at your hotel around 17.00.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Are the meals on this package halal?

Lunches in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Ninh Binh are served at halal restaurants, as listed in the itinerary. See our guides to halal restaurants in Saigon and halal restaurants in Hanoi.

Meals on the overnight Halong Bay cruise are seafood, with no meat. If you would like halal meals on board, ask us to upgrade the cruise to Mon Chéri Cruises, which has a separate halal kitchen, as in our Halong Bay Muslim Cruise 2 Days 1 Night.

2. Are there mosques along this route?

In Ho Chi Minh City, the Saigon Central Mosque (Jamia Al-Muslimin) is at 66 Dong Du Street, District 1, surrounded by halal restaurants. In Hanoi, the Al-Noor Mosque at 12 Hang Luoc Street in the Old Quarter is the only mosque in northern Vietnam. On the cruise you can pray in your cabin, so bring a prayer mat and a qibla app. You can also ask us to include a mosque visit in your itinerary. 3. How much does this tour cost?

This package is priced on request because the cost depends on the hotel standard you choose (for example 3, 4 or 5 star), your travel dates and your group size. 4. Is this a private tour?

Yes. You travel only with your own family or group, with a private guide and a private air-conditioned vehicle, whatever your group size. The only shared part of the trip is the overnight Halong Bay cruise and its shuttle bus, where you travel with other guests; we can arrange a private car to the bay on request.

5. What is included in the package price?

6. Do I have to crawl through the tunnels?

No. Going inside the tunnels is optional. Some sections have been widened for visitors and have exits along the way, and you can also watch from above ground. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes, as the paths can be muddy after rain.

7. How far is the Mekong Delta from Ho Chi Minh City?

My Tho is about 70 km from Ho Chi Minh City (about 1.5 hours by car), and Ben Tre is a little further across the Mekong River. On the tour you take a private boat along the river and a rowing boat through the small coconut canals.

8. Is the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum open every day?

No. The Mausoleum is open only in the morning and is closed on Mondays and Fridays. It also closes for about two months each year for maintenance (in 2026, from 4 September to 2 November). When it is closed, you can still visit the Presidential Palace area, Uncle Ho’s stilt house and the One Pillar Pagoda nearby. Please wear clothes that cover your shoulders and knees.

9. Do I need a visa for Vietnam?

It depends on your passport. Citizens of Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand can visit Vietnam for up to 30 days without a visa, the Philippines for 21 days and Brunei for 14 days. Travellers from the Gulf states, Turkey, Pakistan, Bangladesh and India need an e-visa, which you can apply for on the official website evisa.gov.vn: it is valid for up to 90 days, costs 25 USD for single entry or 50 USD for multiple entry, and usually takes about 3 working days. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months. Visa rules can change, so please check before you travel.

10. Which hotels are used, and is hotel breakfast halal?

You choose the hotel standard, and the price is based on a superior twin, double or triple room with daily breakfast. Hotel breakfasts in Vietnam are generally not halal-certified, although buffets usually include eggs, fruit, bread, rice and seafood or vegetarian dishes. If you need a halal breakfast, tell us when you book and we will advise which hotels can provide it, or arrange breakfast at a halal restaurant.

11. Are domestic flights included?

No. Domestic flights between cities are not included in the package price, and neither are international flights. Tell us your preferred flight times and we will add the domestic flights to your quote.

12. When is the best time to visit Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta?

The dry season, from December to April, is the most comfortable time. From May to November it is the rainy season, but rain usually comes as short afternoon showers, so tours still run normally. See our Saigon travel guide.

13. When is the best time to visit Hanoi and northern Vietnam?

14. When is the best time to visit Halong Bay?

March to May and September to November usually bring calm seas and clear views. From July to October, tropical storms can occur, and the authorities suspend cruises for safety when a storm is coming. 16. Is there a child price?

Yes. When a child shares a room and bed with two adults: children under 2 travel free (except for domestic flight tickets), children aged 2–6 pay 50% and children aged 6–11 pay 75% of the adult rate. From 12 years old, children pay the adult rate. An extra bed is charged separately, and some suppliers set their own child fees, which we will tell you when you book.

17. How do I book this tour and pay the deposit?

Once you confirm the itinerary, a 30% deposit secures your booking, and the remaining 70% is paid on arrival, no later than 1 day before the tour starts. You can pay by card through a secure 9Pay payment link (Visa, Mastercard, American Express or JCB, with a 3.3% bank fee), by bank transfer or by Western Union. 18. Should I tip the guide and driver?

Tips are not included and are optional, but they are appreciated in Vietnam. As a rough guide, many travellers give a private guide about 200,000–400,000 VND (8–16 USD) and a driver about 100,000–200,000 VND (4–8 USD) per day, usually in an envelope at the end of the tour.

19. Is travel insurance included?

No. As an inbound tour operator in Vietnam we cannot sell travel insurance, so please buy full travel insurance in your home country before you travel. See our Terms & Conditions for details.
