Ramadan in Vietnam 2027: Dates, Mosques, Iftar & Travel Tips
Last updated: October 2026. Ramadan and Eid dates depend on the sighting of the new moon; the dates below are astronomical forecasts and will be confirmed shortly before Ramadan.
Planning a trip to Vietnam during Ramadan? Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin on Monday 8 February 2027, with Eid al-Fitr on 9 or 10 March 2027. Vietnam is not a Muslim country and Ramadan is not a public holiday, but the country’s Muslim communities – mostly Cham people in Ho Chi Minh City and An Giang – keep the fast with prayers, community iftars and a famous once-a-year Ramadan food market in Saigon. In 2027 the first days of Ramadan also overlap with Tet, the Lunar New Year. This guide explains the dates, where to experience Ramadan, iftar times and how to travel comfortably while fasting.

Ramadan 2027 Dates
According to forecasts by the International Astronomical Center, the month of Sha’ban 1448 AH will last 30 days, so the first day of fasting is expected on Monday 8 February 2027. Eid al-Fitr is expected on Tuesday 9 or Wednesday 10 March 2027, depending on whether the crescent is seen on the evening of 8 March. Southeast Asian countries sometimes start Ramadan or celebrate Eid one day later than the Gulf states, as happened in 2026, so the date in Vietnam may differ by a day. The Islamic community boards in Vietnam announce the final dates shortly before Ramadan.
For reference, in 2026 Ramadan in Vietnam began on 18 February, the second day of Tet.
Ramadan and Tet 2027: What to Expect
Tet, the Vietnamese Lunar New Year, falls on Saturday 6 February 2027, and the official holiday runs from Thursday 4 to Wednesday 10 February 2027. This means the first three days of Ramadan fall during Tet. Expect:
- many local shops and some restaurants to close for several days, especially outside the tourist areas;
- flights, trains and buses to be fully booked before 4 February and after 10 February, with higher prices;
- very busy temples and pagodas, but quiet streets in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City during the first days of Tet.
If you plan to travel in early February 2027, book flights and hotels early. From about 11 February, life returns to normal for the rest of Ramadan.
Where to Experience Ramadan in Vietnam
Ho Chi Minh City: the Jamiul Anwar Ramadan market
Ho Chi Minh City is home to about 10,000 Cham Muslims. The most atmospheric place to feel Ramadan is the alley around Jamiul Anwar Mosque, Hem 157 Duong Ba Trac Street, Chanh Hung ward (former District 8). The mosque was founded in 1966, and every Ramadan the alley turns into a halal food market from mid-afternoon until iftar, with curry, roti, samosas, the Cham beef sausage tung lo mo and colourful cakes, many for around 10,000 VND. It is popular with local people of all faiths, and food often sells out within a couple of hours, so arrive early.
In the city centre, the Saigon Central Mosque at 66 Dong Du Street (built in 1935) is the main mosque for visiting Muslims, surrounded by halal restaurants. See our Ho Chi Minh City travel guide and halal restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City.
Chau Doc and the Cham villages of An Giang
An Giang province, on the Cambodian border, has Vietnam’s largest Sunni Muslim community, with 12 mosques and 16 small mosques. During Ramadan, the villages around Chau Doc are filled with evening prayers, Qur’an recitation and night-time food stalls, and the community distributes zakat and gifts to poorer families. Read our guide to the Chau Doc Cham Muslim village.
Hanoi: Al-Noor Mosque
In Hanoi, Ramadan centres on Al-Noor Mosque, 12 Hang Luoc Street in the Old Quarter, the only mosque in northern Vietnam. Its congregation includes local Muslims, diplomats and foreign residents. Ask the mosque about Taraweeh and community iftar times during your stay, and see our list of halal restaurants in Hanoi.
Ramuwan: the Cham Bani “Ramadan”
In the former Ninh Thuan province (now part of Khanh Hoa), more than 27,000 Cham Bani follow a local, syncretic form of Islam. Their Ramadan festival, Ramuwan, follows the Cham calendar, so its dates differ from the Sunni Ramadan (in 2026, Tet Ramuwan fell on 17 February). It begins with visits to ancestors’ graves and family rituals, and only the Po Acar clergy retreat and fast at the mosque, while lay people take part in the festival days. It is a fascinating cultural event, but it is not the same as the Ramadan fast observed by Sunni Muslims.
Iftar and Suhoor Times in Vietnam (Approximate)
Vietnam is close to the equator, so fasting days in February and March are short: about 12.5 to 13 hours.
| City | Date | Fajr (approx.) | Iftar / sunset (approx.) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hanoi | 8 Feb 2027 | 05:06 | 17:50 |
| Hanoi | 22 Feb 2027 | 04:59 | 17:57 |
| Hanoi | 9 Mar 2027 | 04:48 | 18:03 |
| Ho Chi Minh City | 8 Feb 2027 | 04:55 | 17:59 |
| Ho Chi Minh City | 9 Mar 2027 | 04:45 | 18:03 |
| Chau Doc | 8 Feb 2027 | 05:01 | 18:05 |
| Chau Doc | 9 Mar 2027 | 04:52 | 18:09 |
Times are our own astronomical estimates (Fajr at 20°). Please follow the timetable of your local mosque or a prayer-time app.
Halal Food During Ramadan
Because Ramadan is not a public holiday, restaurants keep their normal hours during the day. For iftar, choose a halal restaurant near your hotel; our guides list the halal restaurants in Hanoi, halal restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City and halal restaurants in Da Nang. Most hotel breakfasts start at about 6:00, after Fajr, so ask your hotel for an early breakfast box or bring suhoor food from a halal restaurant the evening before; on our tours we arrange this for you.
Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha in Vietnam
On the morning of Eid al-Fitr, Eid prayers are held at local mosques. In the Cham villages of An Giang, families wear new clothes, visit relatives and cook traditional dishes, and many weddings take place after Ramadan. Eid al-Adha, expected on 16 or 17 May 2027, is celebrated in An Giang as Roya Haji; in May 2026 the provincial government held an official gathering with the Cham community for the festival.
Neither Eid is a public holiday in Vietnam, so sightseeing and transport run normally.
Tips for Travelling in Vietnam During Ramadan
- Book early around Tet: avoid long-distance travel between 4 and 10 February 2027, or book well ahead.
- Plan sightseeing in the morning: the south is hot and sunny in February and March; Hanoi is cool and often drizzly.
- Carry water for iftar and dates or snacks if you will be on the road at sunset.
- Choose hotels near a mosque – for example around Dong Du Street in Ho Chi Minh City or the Old Quarter in Hanoi.
- Tell your guide you are fasting – our guides adjust the pace and stop for prayers and iftar.
- Respect local customs: most Vietnamese do not fast, so people will eat and drink around you; this is normal.
