What You Will See
The Cu Chi Tunnels
We go straight to Ben Dinh at 07:30, before the coaches. The tunnels were dug by hand over roughly twenty years and run on three levels, with kitchens, dormitories and field hospitals underground. You see the trap doors, the ventilation shafts, the kitchen smoke system, and a widened section you can walk through if you want to.
The drive south
After lunch the day changes completely: from war history to river life, about two hours across the flat rice country between Saigon and My Tho. Most groups sleep through it, and that is fine.
The Tien River
A motorboat from My Tho pier onto the northern arm of the Mekong, past the four islets named for the Dragon, Unicorn, Phoenix and Turtle, with floating fish farms and stilt houses along the banks.
Ben Tre: coconut and the sampan
A coconut-candy workshop, a bee farm with honey tea, and then the part people remember: a small hand-rowed sampan down a creek roofed with water coconut palms. About twenty minutes, and the quietest part of a very long day.
Halal Food and Prayer
Lunch is at a halal restaurant we reserve in advance, between the tunnels and the delta. Neither Cu Chi nor the delta has halal kitchens of its own.
On this itinerary the day is tight, so tell us at booking if you need the midday prayer and we will build the lunch stop around it.
Who This Tour Is For
Take this only if your time in Saigon is short and you want both. Done separately, each is a comfortable day; done together, it is twelve hours with five of them in the car. Travellers with small children or anyone who tires easily should split it.
Pick another tour if
You have two days: do the Cao Dai Temple and Cu Chi Tunnels day and the Mekong Delta day separately. You will see more of both and spend less time sitting down.
Why book direct with Vietnam Muslim Tours
We are the operator, not a reseller. The guide who meets you at your hotel works for us, the driver works for us, and the restaurants are ones we book ourselves and keep checking. That means you pay the local price with our best price guarantee, changes on the day go straight to the person running your tour, and nothing is passed through a middleman who has never been to Vietnam. Our travellers rate us on TripAdvisor.
Customise This Tour
We can cut the tunnel section short to reach the river earlier, swap My Tho for Cai Be, add the Cao Dai Temple instead of the delta, or split the whole thing across two days with a night in the delta. Tell us what you want to keep and we will rebuild it.
Local Expert Notes
By Jimmy, Vietnam Muslim Tours
- 07:30 is not negotiable on this one. Leaving at eight means arriving at the tunnels with four coaches and losing an hour.
- Eat breakfast before pick-up. Lunch is not until after the tunnels and the morning is physical.
- Two sets of conditions in one day: red dust at Cu Chi, sun and insects on the river. Long light sleeves cover both.
- If anyone is claustrophobic, nobody has to enter the tunnel. The surface walk shows most of the system.
- I will say it plainly: if you can give the delta its own day, do that instead. This tour exists for travellers who cannot, not because it is the better way to see either place.
